Let's Talk Books: Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas

Happy, Happy Tuesday!  Today is an especially happy Tuesday because I'm hanging out at my mom and dad's house!  My husband was working out of town just 20 miles from where I grew up, so the Little Guy and I came along for the week.

But enough about me, let's talk books!

My last post about One by Kathryn Otoshi got me to thinking about other Monarch Books that I've loved, which of course sent me straight to the library to pick up this:

Oh, my word, this story is adorable and the humor is spot-on Kindergarten humor.  It's so funny, in fact, it was the 2011 winner of the Monarch Award.

Meet the Rhyming Dust Bunnies:
 They love to rhyme!
But poor Bob, just can never seem to come up with a rhyming word!
Eventually, the other Rhyming Dust Bunnies figure out that Bob was just trying to warn them that a big, scary monster with a broom was on his way.

Whew!  Now that the coast is clear, the Rhyming Dust Bunnies start rhyming again.  But...
This story is so much fun and a great introduction to rhyming and word families.  It's so simple to extend while reading ("Who can think of a word Bob could have used to rhyme with 'car'?") and I love that even early in the school year, a lot of kids can "read" this book themselves.

Speaking of books that kiddos can read themselves, I'd love to give you one!  I've been working on some emergent readers for my classroom, and was wondering if you'd like one as well.  To "win" one, simply enter the giveaway and leave me a comment with the title of my emergent reader that you'd like!

  1. This is one of my favorite books to read! The kids find it so funny that Bob has trouble rhyming!
